Stuart Swim – Clinics and Workshops
We continually hold clinics throughout the year. In partnership with HEAT – Hartford Extended Area Triathletes and other clubs and facilities.
We can design customized clinics for any group or club to include:
- Long distance swimming, up to 10 miles
- Middle distance swimming for all levels of athletes
- Triathletes, all age groups, all levels: Beginner to Elite
- USMS swimmers (masters’ swimmers)
- Age Group USA swimmers
- Leisure Swimmers
- Specialized Triathlon Swim Training, all distances
Clinics and Workshops usually include:
- 90-120 min. in depth Sessions of 5 or more participants, (up to 25)
- Freestyle Stroke mechanics Breakdown
- Open Water Swimming Skills and Drills
- General start and Mass start techniques
- General positioning of each participant to race start
- Gun/horn take off ; technique/ anxiety maintenance
- Early race maneuvering, finding a threshold, finding your personal groove
- Awareness drills: using all senses; eyes, ears, feel of water and air
- Situation Awareness: being aware of lifeguards, landmarks, watermarks (boats, docks, buoys, etc.)
- Adversity Conditioning: what to do in adverse conditions – big waves, waves w/chop, chop only, chop w/ wind, waves only, currents; current only (river or bay), and placid H20 conditions
- Sun angles: using the sun to your advantage – sighting
- Panic Situations: what to do and how to behave if a panic situation arises
- specialized calming techniques, relaxation, body positioning, vocalizing
- Sighting drills and skills in all situations: buoy sighting, landmarks, watermarks (docks, boats) sight lines, buoy lines
- Buoy turns, all levels, all directions
- Mid race threshold maintenance swimming: keeping your groove, developing a rhythm within yourself, the race, and the water itself
- Drafting Techniques: drafting responsibly, being drafted with respect (dis)respected drafting techniques (shake ‘em off), positioning sequence within a race
- Buddy system drafting = w/matched partner; optimal energy efficiency swimming through alternate trade off drafting techniques
- Build to finish swim conditioning; finding the voice of your legs and upper threshold
- Swim finish techniques for triathletes that includes: sighting the banner/gate,finding your flowing kick, finding your footing, optimal swim to splash run position
- Transitioning: finding your fluid disrobing process, relaxed and efficient, flowing with your transition cadence, mental self talk, acknowledging your fans & family, mind and body together, fueling & hydrating, visualizing your bike gear, moving relaxed, quickly, and prepared for the bicycle portion ahead, bristling with awareness
